Who Is This For?
ICT (Inner Circle Trader) methodology traders who need to know when kill zones are active. Kill zones are specific time windows within each session where institutional order flow is highest — this is when ICT traders look for entries. The clock auto-detects your timezone so you never miss a window.
What Are ICT Kill Zones?
ICT Kill Zones are specific time windows during the trading day when institutional order flow is highest and the best trading setups form. These are the times when "smart money" — banks, hedge funds, and market makers — are most active.
The four kill zones are: Asia (8 PM - 12 AM EST), London Open (2 AM - 5 AM EST), New York Open (7 AM - 10 AM EST), and London Close (10 AM - 12 PM EST). The London and New York sessions typically offer the highest volatility and cleanest price action.
Trading during kill zones helps you avoid low-volatility chop and focus on times when your edge is strongest. Many ICT concepts — like optimal trade entries, fair value gaps, and liquidity sweeps — are designed specifically for these windows.
Read our guide on ICT kill zones explained and use GrandAlgo indicators to identify setups during these high-probability windows.
Worked Example
Step 1: The clock shows the New York Kill Zone is active (9:30–11:00 AM EST).
Step 2: On the 15-minute chart, you spot a manipulation move (Judas swing) — price sweeps the Asian session high, grabbing buy-side liquidity.
Step 3: Price reverses sharply, leaving a fair value gap. You enter short on the FVG retest with a stop above the swing high.
Step 4: Target the Asian session low or a previous day's discount array. The kill zone confirms you're trading during peak institutional activity.
Assumptions & Edge Cases
- Kill zone times are based on ICT methodology standards and auto-adjust to your local timezone.
- Kill zones indicate when to look for setups — not every kill zone produces a tradeable opportunity.
- Works best in conjunction with higher-timeframe bias (daily or weekly direction).
- During major news events (NFP, FOMC), kill zone behavior may deviate from normal patterns.
- Times may shift slightly during US daylight saving transitions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Kill zones are specific time windows when institutional traders are most active. The main kill zones are London Open (2-5 AM EST), New York Open (7-10 AM EST), and London Close (10 AM-12 PM EST).
Most high-probability setups occur during kill zones because institutional order flow is concentrated in these windows. Trading outside kill zones exposes you to low-volume, choppy price action.
The New York kill zone (7-10 AM EST) typically has the highest volume and largest moves, especially when it overlaps with the London session.
